This month, Nutritionists Kimberly and Erin ventured out to Apollon Restaurant, a local and leading Greek restaurant in the Fox Cities.

Chef, and former owner, Stavros Kodis was born and raised in Greece. In 1984 he opened his first restaurant, Bij De Griek, and operated it until the end of 1993. During that time he met his wife Jan, a native of Appleton. In 1994 he moved to the Fox Valley.

The Apollon has since become a staple in the Fox Valley. Chef Kodis taught and trained the entire staff, his legacy carries on to this day.

This was an excellent dining experience. We were extremely impressed with the service and meal education provided by our waitress. She walked us through all three courses and explained details of what each included and how it was made.
We got to enjoy Apollon staples that come with each dining experience: bread & homemade hummus, egg-lemon soup, and an amazing Greek salad with two homemade dressings.

For our entrees, we ordered and highly recommend:

Moussaka, which is layers of eggplant and potatoes with sautéed beef and lamb. Topped with béchamel sauce.
Chicken with Mushrooms & Feta, which is chicken that is grilled, then broiled with sautéed onions, fresh Shiitake mushrooms, and feta cheese.

Last but not least, how could we not order the infamous Saganaki (Flaming Cheese) while dining at Apollon? This is a combination of goat & sheep’s cheese, flamed at your table with brandy and lemon. Opa!
