Spats Restaurant

Experience a local Appleton restaurant that has been around for almost 100 years!

The historic building dates back to the early 1920s as an establishment folks liked to come and mingle in. The service is great and the food is superb! Spats Restaurant was built in 1922 offering the ultimate in local fare and flare. Their menu boasts the most delicious food sourced from local family businesses such as Manderfields Family Bakery, Acoca Coffee, Stone Arch Brewery, Navarino Elk Ranch, and Jacobs Meat Market, to name a few! Many of their regular customers as well as first timers have said, “It feels like Cheers when you walk in here, everyone is so friendly.”

Whether you’re looking for a place to grab a bite to eat or are looking to sit outside with friends and family on their outdoor “Spatio,” with scheduled live local music, head over to Spats, “The Tav on the Ave.”

Our waitress Brittany was incredibly helpful and attentive our entire dining experience. She explained that the owner & Chef Nick puts his heart and soul into meals, and is very mindful to accommodate any special dietary needs of Spats customers. Friday nights at Spats are not to be missed. They have a separate fish menu that offers local and exotic seafood dishes. They also have broiled healthier, lighter fare options for fish fries. Spats also offers two specials every day that are not listed on their menu to keep things fresh for their loyal regulars.

Nutritionists Kimberly and Erin ordered the:
Steak Salad which includes hanger steak, arugula, romaine, cherry tomatoes, pickled red onions, feta, and chimichurri ranch
Salmon Entree which includes grilled salmon, smashed baby reds, wilted spinach, and blistered cherry tomatoes
Born and raised right here in Appleton, owner and chef Nick began his culinary career working in local area kitchens. He pursued his degree in Denver at Johnson and Wales University where he met Bri, and the rest is history.
The husband and wife duo have worked in kitchens across the country from California to New York. Nick describes his cooking as “elevated comfort food.”

On their website, Bri explains, “Nick and I both have worked amongst some amazing chefs and trained from the best! We picked Spats because we knew it fit our vision and would be a great place to take to the next generation! From laughing at one another to the biggest support team, we are all a huge family!”
