The Importance of Hydration: Become a #WaterWarrior

Early on in my NH program, I learned about the importance of water, and that the old standard of 64 ounces a day for every person, – no matter their shape or size – just wasn’t enough. Like so many other things, Nutritional Healing believes individuals should consume a personalized amount of water for their size. In fact, the counselors recommend consuming half your body weight in ounces of water each day. That might sound like a lot of water, but what people may not know is that many of us walk around chronically dehydrated. If we aren’t thinking about how many ounces we are consuming, chances are we aren’t getting enough. Plus, there are everyday things we consume and do that have a diuretic effect on our bodies, such as drinking caffeine and taking medication. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, weakness, decreased or darkened urine, and palpitations, just to name a few.

When we ARE hydrated, our body is flushing out toxins more efficiently. Drinking more water can also help curb our appetite and make our metabolism run more efficiently, and when the goal is to lose weight, these are both very important. But, how do you go from chronically dehydrated to hydrated?? Mindfulness. Setting small goals for improvement is the first step. If you only drink 10 oz of water daily, try to increase to 20 over the next two weeks. Once you achieved that, set a new goal. Buy yourself a water bottle that has ounce measurements on it, so you can keep track, instead of guessing. If you find plain water boring, try adding essential oils for a natural flavor boost. Our favorites are citrus oils, like lemon and grapefruit. These oils also have natural benefits for your body!

Staying hydrated doesn’t just happen. It is something that all the counselors at Nutritional Healing had to work at before it became a habit. Yes, you’ll have to use to the bathroom more often, but that just means you’re flushing toxins out more regularly. I mean, you wash your outside – showers and hand washing – regularly, why wouldn’t you want to wash your insides too?

For the month of December, we are asking you to join us in becoming a #WaterWarrior by increasing your water intake and setting new goals. This way, by the time the New Year rolls around, this will already be a good habit. If you are on Facebook, SHOW us (and your friends and family) that you believe your health and hydration is important by taking a photo, tagging Nutritional Healing – Brookfield, and using #WaterWarrior. Each client or friend of Nutritional Healing who does this will be entered to win tickets to see the Milwaukee Admirals in January. We want to see you take dehydration head on and defeat it, along with each and every #WaterWarrior in the Nutritional Healing office!
